Russia's Aquaculture Output Reaches 3.142 Million Tonnes in First Three Quarters; Salmon Farming Up 32.2%

Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency reports that from January to September 2026, Russia's commercial aquaculture output reached 3.142 million tonnes, up nearly 16% year on year, with the salmon farming segment driving growth at 32.2%.

Russia's Federal Fisheries Agency reports that from January to September 2026, Russia's commercial aquaculture output reached 3.142 million tonnes, an increase of 424,000 tonnes compared with the same period in 2025, a rise of nearly 16%.

Salmon farming was the fastest-growing segment. Output of rainbow trout and Atlantic salmon (Oncorhynchus mykiss and Salmo salar) rose 32.2% to 1.305 million tonnes. The segment now accounts for more than 40% of Russia's domestically produced aquaculture products. The agency's press service said farmed fish supplement wild-caught products, and their production is not directly linked to the cyclical migrations of wild Pacific salmon, thereby expanding the supply of red fish.

Other farming segments also recorded growth: output of valuable aquatic organisms rose 19% to 912,000 tonnes; sturgeon output rose 6% to 67,000 tonnes.

Earlier, in October 2026, the Russian government amended the development strategy for the agro-industrial complex and the fisheries complex. The 2026 aquaculture target was lowered from 432,000 tonnes to 391,000 tonnes in the baseline scenario, and from 410,400 tonnes to 388,000 tonnes in the conservative scenario.
