Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has disbursed the first tranche of €1.67 million in subsidies to 52 fishing companies operating 81 vessels outside EU waters, compensating for extra fuel costs driven up by the Middle East conflict between March 22 and April 30.
Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has disbursed the first tranche of €1.67 million in public subsidies to 52 fishing companies operating a total of 81 Spanish-flagged fishing vessels. These vessels operate in various fishing grounds outside EU waters, and the subsidies compensate for the extra fuel costs incurred by these vessels between March 22 and April 30. According to La Voz de Galicia, the first tranche of subsidies will be paid out within the coming days.
Data from the Spanish fisheries sector show that on Monday (October 26), the average price of diesel at Spanish marine fuel stations reached €1.310 per litre, setting an all-time record. During the March 22 to April 30 period covered by the subsidies, diesel prices rose sharply due to the Middle East conflict.
