The Russian government has ordered additional funding for the Korsakov fishing port wharf project in Sakhalin Oblast. According to a statement released by the Russian government's press service on November 5, 2026, the additional funds exceed RUB 594 million and will be used to modernize the wharf's hydraulic structures and complete all ongoing construction under the Korsakov seaport infrastructure renovation project. The government said in the announcement that the renovation will expand the region's logistics capacity.

Korsakov Port is described by the Russian government press service as one of the key transport hubs in the Far East basin. The port development project includes the modernization of facilities belonging to the Federal Agency for Fisheries (Нацрыбресурс) and the Federal State Unitary Enterprise Rosmorport (Росморпорт). In August 2024, Sakhalin Oblast Governor Valery Limarenko officially announced the start of the harbor improvement works.

According to the Sakhalin Oblast government, dredging operations have begun at Korsakov Port. The work is divided into two phases: the first phase involves dredging the approach channel and the fishing port operating waters, and the second phase involves dredging the waters of the southern cargo handling area. Once completed, large-tonnage vessels, including fishing vessels, will be able to enter the port. The Sakhalin Oblast government press service told Fishnews that the dredging work will continue until 2030.
