NTech study: Russian seafood and low-salt fish consumption both outpace the market in H1 2026
Russian research firm NTech compared consumer market data for the first half of 2026 with the same period in 2025. Seafood and low-salt fish outperformed the overall market on both volume and value, while fish and fish preserves moved from the inflationary group into the "star" group.
A consumer market study published by Russian research firm NTech on November 3, 2026 shows that seafood and low-salt fish have become categories attracting consumer interest and spending. The analysis is based on a dynamic comparison between the first half of 2026 and the first half of 2025.
NTech uses its five-group classification to compare each category's performance against the overall market on both volume and value. The five groups are "center," "inflationary group," "deflationary group," "black hole" and "star."
Among fish-related categories, canned fish is placed in the inflationary group, meaning its volume growth was slower than the overall market while its value growth exceeded the overall market.
Seafood and low-salt fish were placed in the "star" group. By NTech's definition, categories in this group grew better than the overall market on both value and kilograms.
The research firm also noted a rise in Russian consumers' interest in simple, basic foods. Against this backdrop, fish and fish preserves moved from the inflationary group into the "star" group.
The study results were reported by Fishnews on November 3, 2026.
