Direct Iceland–Beijing Salmon Route Opens as Arnarlax Completes First Fresh Fish Shipment to China

Icelandic salmon farming company Arnarlax has completed its first shipment of fresh salmon to China following the opening of a direct Reykjavik–Beijing route, with the fish reaching the buyer 18 hours after departing Keflavik Airport.

Arnarlax, one of Iceland's main salmon farming companies, has completed its first shipment of fresh salmon to China following the recent opening of a direct route between Reykjavik and Beijing. The company, majority-owned by Norway's SalMar, said the shipment went smoothly, with the fish reaching the buyer just 18 hours after departing Keflavik, Iceland's main international airport.

Arnarlax had previously exported a considerable volume of fresh salmon to China.

Trade data show that Iceland's salmon exports to China grew markedly in 2026. In June 2026, Iceland's salmon exports to China nearly doubled to 615 tonnes. In August 2026, a cargo flight carrying nearly 12 tonnes of Icelandic salmon arrived at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport.

On prices, quotes for Icelandic 6-7 kg Atlantic salmon (大西洋鲑) declined in August 2026: quoted at 92 yuan/kg on August 4, still 92 yuan/kg on August 20, and down to 84 yuan/kg by August 31.
