An Binh Fishing Village Leverages Doc Ca Port to Build a First-Class Fishing Port Logistics Cluster in the Southwest, with 61% of the Commune's 464 Fishing Vessels Measuring 12 Meters or More
An Binh Fishing Village in Binh An Commune, An Giang Province, Vietnam, is located in the brackish-water mixing zone of the Saigon River estuary, adjacent to the first-class Doc Ca fishing port. A 2026 survey found a total of 464 fishing vessels in the commune, of which 283 are 12 meters or longer, accounting for about 61%.
According to a report by Vietnam Fisheries Magazine on October 28, 2026, An Binh Fishing Village is located in the southwestern estuary region, under Binh An Commune, An Giang Province, now part of An Tai Village (formerly An Binh Village), and previously under the jurisdiction of Chau Thanh District, Kien Giang Province. The formation of the fishing village went hand in hand with the reclamation of riverbank and coastal land and with fishing, purchasing and transport activities in the Doc Ca area.
An Binh Fishing Village is close to the Cai Lon–Cai Be river mouth system and directly connected to the waterway leading to the Gulf of Thailand, giving it natural conditions for developing fisheries and cargo trade. Unlike fishing villages where residents live concentrated along the coast, An Binh shows the living characteristics of an estuary fishing community, with fishing activities developing alongside purchasing, preservation, transport and processing service systems.
After the 2025 administrative reorganization, Binh An Commune was established by merging the three communes of Binh An, Vinh Hoa Hiep and Vinh Phu, with a total natural area of 73.43 square kilometers.
The core economic activities of An Binh residents center on fishing and logistics services. The village's outstanding advantage is its proximity to Doc Ca fishing port—a first-class fishing port whose planned development is integrated with a large fisheries center for southwestern fishing grounds.
Data from the 2026 survey show that Binh An Commune currently has 464 fishing vessels, of which 283 are 12 meters or longer, accounting for about 61% of the fleet. In the An Binh–Doc Ca area, the chain from purchasing, grading, preservation and processing to the supply of fuel, ice and fishing materials has created jobs and stable incomes for local residents. The close links among fishermen, vessel owners, traders and service facilities have formed a diversified fisheries economy combining production at sea with business on land.
Beyond economic activity, local community life bears a strong imprint of southern Vietnam's waterway culture. Folk knowledge about weather, tides, navigation channels, fishing gear techniques and seafood preservation methods has been accumulated and passed down through generations. The spiritual life of An Binh fishermen is closely tied to folk customs and beliefs, embodying hopes for safe voyages and favorable weather, and local religious activities are closely connected with the shared cultural space of Doc Ca and surrounding areas.
Vinh Hoa Dinh (also known as Thap Nien Dinh) in Binh An Commune is a historical and cultural relic associated with the national hero Nguyen Trung Truc. It serves both as a place to honor predecessors and as an important space for cultural and religious activities, helping to strengthen the unity and cohesion of the community of residents who work at sea.
With advantages in location, infrastructure and labor traditions, An Binh Fishing Village is developing toward a civilized and modern direction in service of the goal of building a sustainable new countryside. Priority directions include developing responsible fisheries, improving vessel management efficiency, ensuring fishing safety, and strictly complying with regulations against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
In addition, the locality is committed to improving the quality of logistics services, strengthening links between production and sales to enhance the product value chain, and paying attention to environmental protection in production, purchasing and processing areas through waste treatment, reducing plastic waste and protecting water sources. Building on its existing potential, An Binh also plans to develop fisheries demonstration models, promote local products and organize community life experience activities.
