Autumn Boat Lure Regional Competition Held at Desnogorsk Reservoir in Russia, Two-Day Contest from the 31st to the 1st

From October 31 to November 1, 2026, a boat lure regional competition was held in the "Chertov Ovrag" bay of Desnogorsk Reservoir in Smolensk Oblast, Russia. Personnel from the Moscow-Oka Basin Administration of the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries and the State Small Vessel Inspectorate of the Smolensk Oblast Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were on site to supervise compliance with fisheries regulations and small vessel safety.

The Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries announced on November 3 that from October 31 to November 1, 2026, a boat lure regional competition was held in the waters of Desnogorsk Reservoir in Smolensk Oblast, with the venue set in the scenic "Chertov Ovrag" bay of the reservoir. The event was called "Autumn Water Battle" by the organizers.

According to the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries, the goals and objectives of holding such events include: attracting residents of all segments, especially young people, to participate regularly in sports, cultivating noble moral qualities and physical fitness, promoting the all-round development of individuals, strengthening friendly relations and sports ties, selecting the strongest athletes in Smolensk Oblast, and promoting sport fishing.

During the competition, State Inspector Zakharchuk Ruslan Alexandrovich of the State Supervision, Protection and Defense Department for Aquatic Biological Resources of Bryansk Oblast and Smolensk Oblast under the Moscow-Oka Basin Administration of the Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries, and Senior State Inspector Sakovich Alexander Sergeyevich of the State Small Vessel Inspectorate of the Smolensk Oblast Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, were on site to supervise compliance with fisheries regulations.

The announcement noted that boat lure fishing is not only fishing but also a sport of high technique and deep understanding of nature. Participating boat teams had to solve complex tasks: interpreting the behavior of predatory fish after water temperatures drop in late autumn and fish leave their summer habitats; choosing the right lures, determining search tactics and the speed of covering the fishing waters became decisive factors.

The competition featured individual (two-person) points and team points. Individual (two-person) points made the competition more intense, with the technique of every cast, instant reaction to bites and fish-fighting skills all counted in the results; team points added strategic depth, with the final result depending on the coordinated performance of all two-person teams representing their region.

The Russian Federal Agency for Fisheries stated in the announcement that this competition at Desnogorsk Reservoir once again proved that fishing is a fascinating sport in which high technique meets the eternal contest between humans and nature.
