On October 29, 2026, a verdict was issued in Russia's Kamchatka Krai in the case of four local residents operating an illegal seafood business. According to the press service of the Investigative Department of the Russian Federation's Investigative Committee for Kamchatka Krai, which informed Fishnews, the four defendants were found guilty of crimes under Article 171.1, Part 4, items "a" and "b" of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, namely the acquisition, storage, transportation and sale of unlabeled products by an organized group on an especially large scale. The total weight of the illegal goods seized during searches exceeded 28 tonnes.

The investigation showed that the organizer of the criminal group was the founder and general director of two commercial entities in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. He drew up the plan and distributed roles among three recruited members of the group, who were responsible for ensuring an uninterrupted supply of raw materials and for processing, packaging and selling the seafood products through retail outlets.

The group's criminal activity lasted from 2019 to July 2025. To carry out the plan, the group used rented warehouses and auxiliary premises equipped with refrigeration equipment, as well as garages, containers and a residential property used for processing the products. The goods were transported in the organizer's vehicles. Law enforcement officers conducted searches at five locations in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. In addition, during test purchases, multiple instances of the sale of illegal products were recorded.

According to law enforcement information, the total value of illegal transactions in unlabeled goods exceeded 18 million rubles.

In terms of sentencing, one of the defendants, who had previously been serving a sentence in another case, was sentenced on cumulative charges to five years and nine months' imprisonment in a strict-regime labor camp. The remaining members of the group must pay fines of 600,000 rubles and 500,000 rubles. In addition, nearly 9.2 million rubles were confiscated to state revenue, the supervisory authorities reported.
