Peru's Jan–Aug seafood exports fall 13.3% to US$2.977 billion; ADEX warns El Niño could put 80,000 jobs at risk

Data from the Peruvian Exporters Association (ADEX) show that Peru's seafood exports totaled US$2.977 billion in January–August 2026, down 13.3% year on year; the association warns that El Niño will push full-year exports to a negative close, and that up to 80,000 industry-related jobs could be at risk if the shutdown of some fleets is prolonged.

Data released by the Peruvian Exporters Association (ADEX) show that from January to August 2026, Peru's total seafood exports amounted to US$2.977 billion, down 13.3% from the same period last year.

ADEX warns that, affected by El Niño, exports for the full year will end in negative growth. The association notes that if the shutdown of some fleets is prolonged, up to 80,000 jobs related to the industry could be at risk.

The current uncertainty centers on the upcoming anchoveta (Engraulis ringens) fishing season: a delayed start or a cut in quota could both prolong fleet downtime and drive up companies' operating costs.

The above figures and forecasts all come from ADEX and still need to be checked against official statistics.

Other seafood trade news from the same day (November 4, 2026) included: Norway exported NOK 18.2 billion worth of seafood in October, down NOK 48 million from the same month last year, with export value essentially flat; salmon export value hit a record high, while wild-caught species such as cod, mackerel and haddock saw declines in both export volume and export value, and although export prices for cod, mackerel, trout, saithe, herring and shrimp rose, a stronger Norwegian krone kept total export value at the same level as the same period last year. The United Kingdom exported 483,001 tonnes of seafood worth GBP 2 billion in 2025, while importing GBP 4.1 billion worth of seafood, or 1.18 million tonnes; compared with 2024, export value rose 1% and export volume fell 2%, a decrease of about 10,000 tonnes, with exports to France worth GBP 810 million, and salmon was the largest export species by both volume and value.
